CubeIQ Cloud

The CubeIQ control unit itself directly controls the inverter of the PV plant. In order to effectively manage the energy flow in a building, we need to have data that includes weather forecasts, energy consumption, PV generation, current spot market electricity prices and other factors.

That’s why we developed the CubeIQ Cloud, which is directly connected to CubeIQ via its own secure VPN. This allows us to analyze data about the PV performance and your energy consumption. This allows us to efficiently manage the energy flow in real time. At the same time, we are able to buy and sell electricity at times that are most advantageous for you. That is, to maximize sales of generated electricity at the time when electricity is most expensive and, conversely, to buy at the time when electricity is cheapest.

Thanks to the active monitoring of your PV plant, which includes notifications about the “health” of the PV plant, you will have an overview of the performance of the PV plant at all times.

Using CubeIQ Cloud, we can also work with our specialists to identify improperly switched appliances or anomalies in the electricity consumption. With this optimization, we can reduce your energy consumption and thus save you considerable money.

With CubeIQ Cloud, you get access to all these features and services without having to deal with complicated technical details. It’s all handled simply and intuitively through a mobile app that you can keep close at hand.

Most modern PV installations include three basic components.

Photovoltaic panels that produce direct current when illuminated.

An inverter, which converts the DC current to AC and takes care of distributing the electricity within the building, charging the battery, and drawing/supplying from the electricity distribution grid.

Batteries, electrical energy storage.

When the sun is shining on the panels, the inverter is primarily responsible for ensuring that all the electricity generated is consumed within the building. However, if the panels produce more electricity than you are able to consume at any given time, the inverter will start storing electricity in batteries. At the point when even the batteries are 100% charged, the inverter will begin to pass electricity to the grid.

This method of controlling the flow of energy, which is the standard setup for most PV plants, is inefficient. It does not manage energy over time.

CubeIQ works with weather forecasts in combination with the spot price of electricity at the time of purchase and sale. This allows it to combine buying, selling and self-consumption at any given time to be as efficient as possible for the user.

The CubeIQ must be connected to a power supply and a local network with internet access.
To enable communication between the CubeIQ and the inverter in the PV plant, the CubeIQ must first be connected to the power supply and to the local computer network using an Ethernet cable. Please make sure that the PV inverter is also connected to the same LAN to which you have connected the CubeIQ.

The CubeIQ will automatically start the activation sequence when plugged in. It will establish a secure connection to the CubeIQ Cloud and automatically look up the IP address of the inverter. It then sets up the connection to the inverter’s API.

CubeIQ can operate in several modes in terms of energy saving.

1 – I have a fixed price for buying electricity and I don’t sell the excess electricity produced from my PV plant.

In this case, your PV plant is operating in the so-called “no-current mode” or you have not yet managed to arrange the purchase of your surplus energy from one of the traders who buy electricity. In this basic mode, CubeIQ works with the lighting forecast and the consumption history of the building. It manages the depth of battery discharge, constantly monitors the PV status and gives you detailed online information about your consumption. Even in this basic mode, you are able to save about 10% extra energy by optimizing the consumption of your appliances and significantly extending the life of your battery.

Our recommendation: we will be happy to help you with the establishment of the so-called production EAN, which is necessary for the purchase of electricity and arrange the purchase and purchase of electricity at spot prices.

2 – I have a fixed price for buying electricity and I sell the excess electricity generated from my PV plant at a fixed price.

By selling the surplus power, we are significantly reducing the return on our PV investment.

But at the same time, you don’t get to choose at what point you sell the electricity to make it most profitable for you. However, with CubeIQ we can optimize the moment to start selling electricity, taking into account the prediction of the illuminance and consumption of the building. So there may be a situation where you don’t have a fully charged battery yet, but you still sell the electricity you generate. This is due to the prediction of electricity production and the shifting of the full battery charge in time. This optimization can save up to 20% extra energy compared to a standard PV plant.

Our recommendation: we will be happy to help you set up the purchase and purchase of electricity at spot prices.

3 – I have a fixed price for buying electricity and sell the excess electricity generated from my PV at spot price.

Selling electricity at the spot price gives you the opportunity to sell at the exact moment when the purchase price is highest. However, thanks to the CubeIQ logic, we can optimize the moment to sell the electricity considering the evolution of the purchase price over time, the forecast of the illuminance and the consumption of the building. This is an additional extension over the previous situation. By this optimization we can save up to 30% extra energy compared to standard PV.

4 – I use the spot price for buying and selling.

If you sell and buy at spot prices and everything is managed by CubeIQ, you belong to the “league of the exceptional”, in hyperbole. CubeIQ gives you full flexibility to operate electricity as efficiently as possible over time. By knowing spot electricity prices a day ahead and predicting the illuminance, we can manage energy efficiently even when the sun is not shining or it is night.

For example, we can charge the battery at night, when energy prices are usually lowest, and then use the stored energy at a time when, on the other hand, there is a morning peak. If you own an electric car, the CubeIQ will ensure charging when the price of electricity is at its lowest. Therefore, it is not necessary to start charging immediately when you get home, but to delay charging over time. By combining all these options, we achieve maximum control efficiency and can save up to 30% of the cost compared to a standard PV system.

The lifetime of each battery is defined by the number of charge cycles. This is usually around 6,000 – 8,000 cycles. This corresponds to a lifetime of about 6 – 10 years.

Because CubeIQ controls the depth of discharge of the battery, it extends the lifetime by 20%-30%.

With CubeIQ, you have an online overview of your energy consumption, including graphs and historical records. In the event of any fault or anomaly in the operation of the PV plant, you are informed via notifications in the mobile app.

CubeIQ also manages the depth of discharge of the battery. This extends the lifetime by 20%-30%.

In order to be able to sell the electricity you produce, you must have a so-called production EAN.

The Czech Republic is divided between three distribution companies – ČEZ Distribuce a.s., EG. D a.s. and PREdistribuce, a.s. With the new legislation in force since January 2023, each of the distributors is obliged to assign you a second so-called production EAN when you request it.

You then need to contact an electricity trader who is registered and has the necessary licence to broker the sale of energy at spot prices.

As a service to our customers, we offer the paperwork for the allocation of a production EAN and assistance in registering with an electricity trader to buy and purchase at spot prices with a favourable tariff. Our partner is TEDOM energie s.r.o.

The administrative fee is 3.200Kč including VAT.

For the first 100 customers who purchase CubeIQ this service is free of charge.

With the universal CubeIQ interface, we support most certified inverters that support Modbus TCP/IP or Modbus RS-485.
